Free frozen yogurt? We're in!

Speaking of national food holidays, Tuesday is National Frozen Yogurt Day. For the seventh year, Yogurtland will celebrate by offering guests free frozen yogurt, ice cream and toppings from 4 to 7 p.m.

Options include two new handcrafted flavors made with Hershey’s products: chocolate malt ball ice cream made with Whoppers and chocolate wafer bar frozen yogurt made with KitKat.

It's burger time — again

Dining preferences may come and go, but there is one constant: Bakersfield loves its burgers. Grass-fed, locally raised, mixed with bacon, double-stacked, you name it and someone in town is trying it out.

Along with recent additions CaliBurger off Olive Drive and Narducci's Burgers and Italian Ice downtown, there is another contender for your burger bucks.

Burgerim, an international fast-casual burger chain, plans to open three locations in the coming months: 5620 Stockdale Highway (in Stockdale Village); 5041 Gosford Road, Suite 300; and 2658 Mt. Vernon Ave., Suite B (near the new Smart & Final).

What differentiates Burgerim from the rest of the patty pack is their concept, serving mini, 2.8-ounce burgers customizable with a choice of three buns, five sauces, 10 patties and nine toppings. Proteins run the gamut from various styles of beef and lamb to salmon, veggie patties and falafel. Options are available for special dietary needs like vegetarian, vegan or gluten free.

We'll keep you posted when opening dates are announced.

You don't know Jack

Jack Box, CEO of the Jack in the Box restaurant chain, known simply as Jack, is reportedly in a sandwich battle with lifestyle and culinary guru Martha Stewart. The fast-food chain leaked a text message exchange between the two but the takeaway is that Jack is bringing his A-game with the new line of Food Truck Series sandwiches.

Launched Feb. 1, the three tasty options are the banh mi-inspired Asian fried chicken sandwich, prime rib cheesesteak and pork belly BLT — launching system-wide on February 1.

Timed for the Super Bowl, the foodie feud is due to heat up on social media following the big game. Fans are encouraged to follow along on social media by tracking the #JackvsMartha hashtag.

Sweet on Valentine's

Dunkin’ Donuts is embracing the spirit of the season, with heart-shaped treats and Valentine's Day flavors.

New flavors this month are Vanilla Truffle, a doughnut filled with vanilla-flavored buttercreme, frosted with vanilla icing and topped with semi-sweet chocolate curls; Brownie Batter Crumble, filled with rich chocolatey brownie batter filling, frosted with chocolate icing and crumbled brownies; and Cupid’s Choice, filled with Bavarian cream, frosted with strawberry-flavored icing and sprinkled with a festive mix of pink and white sprinkles.

The chain also gave its existing lineup some cute, lovey-dovey names including: Donut Be Jelly, a sweet fruit-filled option; Pretty in Pink, a strawberry frosted option with pink and white sprinkles; and Choc Full O’ Love, a frosted chocolate doughnut topped with pink and white sprinkles.

New and different

Pita Paradise is offering a new Hot Cheetos chicken shawarma through the month of February. ... We mentioned National Pizza Day earlier, Olive Garden is promoting its meatball pizza bowl, part of its create your own lunch duos menu, as a good option for celebrating the holiday. ...  Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar is offering its handcrafted burgers with a side of fries for $7.99. It's also serving the DOLLARMAMA, its take on a Bahama mama — made with white rum and the chain's proprietary mix of pineapple, lime and orange juices with hints of coconut and cherry — for just, you guessed it, $1.
