Many restaurants hold a soft opening, allowing staff to learn the ropes and customers to get an early taste of what's to come. That's usually followed by a grand opening, and, come Saturday, Sonder is ready to party.

The new northwest restaurant, which opened Aug. 7 for its "preseason," will hold a daylong grand opening event with live music, face painting and, of course, food and drinks. 

Doors open at 10 a.m. and brunch will be served until 3 p.m. After that, the kitchen switches to dinner, which is available until 11 p.m. The bar closes things down at midnight.

Saturday's event will also allow the kitchen to unveil new menu items such as DC burrata (served with confit tomato, orange segments, fennel, red onion, roasted garlic puree, balsamic reduction, honey, sea salt and olive oil) and a smoked salmon board (with tomatoes, mushroom, avocado, lemons, capers and pickled onions). Also big among shareable appetizers is the bruschetta board, from which diners can choose an assortment including Greek (olive tapenade, feta, tzatziki, heirloom tomatoes), s'mores (Nutella, toasted marshmallow puff and orange zest), pork belly (with apple butter and pickled chow chow) and duxelle (roasted mushrooms, caramelized onions, Brie and balsamic reduction).
