Christmas is coming to downtown Bakersfield, and the public is invited to help kick off the season this weekend.

On Saturday at 5:30 p.m., the city of Bakersfield will hold its Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Centennial Plaza, right in front of the Rabobank Arena (1001 Truxtun Ave.).

Mayor Karen Goh and Council members Andrae Gonzales and Jacquie Sullivan will be there. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will also join in the ceremony.

Before and after the ceremony, there will be a pre-game Party in the Plaza ahead of the Condors' annual Teddy Bear Toss game. The fun will go from 5 to 7 p.m., with music, fun, games, drinks and $2 hot dogs.

The Condors game — versus the the San Antonio Rampage — will start at 7 p.m.
