Cal State Bakersfield alumni know how to take the tradition of homecoming games and turn it into an even greater celebration: by hosting a pre-game party across the street from campus.

Ahead of the men's basketball game against Seattle University on Feb. 24, the CSUB Alumni Association will hold its first-ever Homecoming Pregame Celebration at Lengthwise at The Marketplace.

"The Homecoming Pregame Celebration is a chance for alumni, friends, family, and fans of CSUB to socialize over some delicious food and beer," Carla Barrientos, president of the Alumni Association, wrote in an email. "We’ll have games like giant Jenga and Connect 4, along with music and giveaways."

After all the fun at Lengthwise, party-goers will head to the basketball game at the Icardo Center, which is in walking distance from the restaurant.

Barrientos said the game will be "a great opportunity to get back on campus and cheer on our team."

Tickets to the celebration are $30 and include food, two alcoholic drinks and a soft drink, Barrientos said, as well as games and giveaways. Children are welcome, with their $10 tickets getting them food and a soft drink.  Note: Admission to the basketball game ($5-$17) must be purchased separately.

Although this is the first time the association has hosted an event like this, it likely won't be the last.

"We have been working hard to give alumni and friends of the university opportunities to socialize and show their Runner Pride," Barrientos said. "We would like to continue this event and other events like this that allow alumni and our community to come together and celebrate the university."

Tickets for the pregame celebration are available on Eventbrite.com and at Lengthwise at The Marketplace.

"It’s going to be a ton of fun! Whether you’re going to the basketball game afterwards, or just want to enjoy some good food and drinks with awesome people, it’s a great way to start your Saturday night."

Other homecoming events at the university include the Hall of Fame Gala on Friday, honoring Bakersfield High School civics teacher Jeremy Adams, Bakersfield buisinessmen Bryan Burrow and Edward Paine and Bakersfield City School District School Health Coordinator Debbie Wood; Rising Runners on Feb. 23, which will honor alumni from the last 10 years who are doing exceptional work in their field; the Homecoming Family Barbecue on Feb. 24 on the Icardo Center Lawn; and the Campus Alumni Lunch and Social for CSUB graduates who now work on campus, on Feb. 21.
