We don't want to be presumptuous but we think we might know what the folks at the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History & Science are thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Donors of the downtown museum answered its call for $10,000 for its monthlong matching donation challenge, exceeding the goal by $3,000, according to an email the museum sent.

Last month, anonymous donors made an offer to match all museum donations up to $10,000 until Nov. 15. With the $13,000 raised over the weeks and the $10,000 from the anonymous donors, the museum ended the donation drive with $23,000.

In the email, the museum — helmed by executive director Koral Hancharick — thanked its supporters:

"This couldn't have happened at a better time. Our wonderful museum relies on the support of the community to keep our doors open and bring more educational programs for children and adults. Besides our operating budget of almost $10,000 per month, we have a few large repair projects for our aging building, not to mention, our desire to bring new educational programs and experiences to our community.

"So, thank you all, again. And please come by and visit us soon!"
