Valley Oaks Charter School may not get the word out as easily as those in the Kern High School District that doesn't mean they want to operate in a bubble. Valley Oaks' students are hoping you'll head out for their performances of "Annie Play Will Do," a musical mashup playing this week at the Little Harvey Auditorium.
The students from the Chester Avenue high school will perform the comedy "Annie Play Will Do." In the show, a miscommunication with the high school's principal leaves the drama teacher forced to cast, stage and produce the play in one day. The two lead theater students, Paul (Dakota Bleu D'Agostino) and Laura (Falon Butcher), to share directing duties. In the middle of a nasty breakup and no longer speaking, the pair split the cast and rehearse separately. What they don't realize — until opening night, that is — is that they have been rehearsing two different musicals: "Annie," about a lovable orphan, and "Annie Get Your Gun," about a trailblazing sharpshooter.
Confusion and comedy ensue in the theater nightmare brought to life. Performances are at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at Little Harvey Auditorium, 1241 G St. There is no charge for admission.
