Bakersfield Life Editor/Niche Products Manager
Olivia grew up with The Bakersfield Californian. In high school, Olivia wrote for The Californian's teen section. In college, she interned in The Californian newsroom and worked the occasional weekend reporter shift.
She moved away to intern at a few other newspapers and earn her journalism & Chicano studies degrees from Fresno State. Go Bulldogs.
After graduation, Olivia moved to San Diego County where the newlywed joined her Marine husband and worked as a reporter for the Temecula bureau of The Riverside Press-Enterprise. After the birth of their first son, the pair moved to her hometown to be closer to family and friends. Along the way, the family has grown to four sons and three dogs.
Since her return, Olivia has worked in a variety of positions and departments at The Californian, from newsroom to a media start-up subsidiary. Most recently, she oversees Bakersfield Life magazine, writes a column for the paper, manages a few contributing columnists for the newsroom, and assists in niche products, such as the Bakersfield Voice.
When she's not working, Olivia is involved in a number of community nonprofits, spending time with her family and dogs, living the life of a bride married to a cop on the go, teaching about journalism, and learning about the latest techie trend (she's a total geek and Mac loyalist). But for relaxation, she runs with friends.
