Has been on the sports staff at The Californian since 1980, covering preps for five years, colleges for 16 years and periods covering the Blaze/B'Dodgers in between.
Born in Oakland and lived in the Bay Area until third grade. Has been in the foggy/smoldering (your choice, depending on what time of year it is) San Joaquin Valley since 1965, living in cities including Fresno, Hanford, Arvin and Tulare, in addition to Bakersfield. Lived for three summers during college years in the mountain town of Arnold.
Covered sports and city government at the Tulare Advance-Register and covered education and police at the Clovis Independent during the turbulent '70s.
Graduated from Hoover High School in Fresno and Fresno State University with a degree in journalism. Also attended Hanford and Arvin high schools.
Married with two grown children and three grandchildren. Also three dogs and four cats, plus whatever rodents, vermin or reptiles that are taking up residence at the time. Enjoys skiing and baseball, with extra emphasis on the San Francisco Giants. Also an avid fantasy sports participant in baseball and football and enjoys spending time in the mountains, particularly Yosemite.
Has been active at church in the past and a present member of the board of directors of the Bob Elias Kern County Sports Hall of Fame.
