Sports page designer/copy editor
Lacava joined The Californian as a 17-year-old high school senior in 1980, working part-time in the Sports section. Excluding three years he spent earning a journalism degree at Fresno State and working for the Fresno Bee in the early 1980s, he's been working at The Californian ever since. He covered high school sports (1985-93), was assistant sports editor (1993-98) and business editor (1998-01) before becoming sports editor in the spring of 2001, and copy editor/page designer in 2014.
Lacava and his wife, Irma, were married on May 17, 2014. He has two daughters: Lauren and Carrie; step sons Brandon and CJ Jones and step daughters Carissa Jones and Kristen Self.
Born and raised in Orange County, Lacava moved to Bakersfield in 1979 and graduated from Bakersfield High in 1980. He earned a communications degree from Bakersfield College in 1982 and a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Fresno State in 1985.
