Officers from three local law enforcement agencies will be carrying the “flame of hope” in the Special Olympics torch run on Saturday morning at North High School, 300 Galaxy Ave.

Our readers recommend:

Bakersfield Police Department, Shafter Police Department and California Highway Patrol officers will carry a torch at 8:15 a.m. from different locations in the 30th annual Special Olympics regional tournament. More than 400 athletes will greet the officers at 9:15 a.m. at the high school baseball field.

The athletes will compete in a qualifier tournament in basketball, tennis and bocce, a type of lawn bowling. Leaders will move on to the summer games from June 13 to 15 in Long Beach.
