Members for the band Velorio, from left, Alvaro Caceres, Ben Gomez and Eric Powers, perform during auditions for last year's Kern County Fair.

Auditions will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the fairgrounds for anyone from dancers and martial arts teams to rock bands and magicians for the four entertainment stages throughout the grounds.

They’ll try to accommodate every act and performers’ desired showtimes, said fair supervisor Jeannie Burton.

Acts can show up and fill out paperwork on the spot. Bands should bring their equipment or tapes and CDs to demonstrate their work. There’s no age requirement. Everyone’s welcome.

Last year, 167 acts performed, and the fair averaged 12 to 13 community shows a day, Burton said.

“It gives the group exposure that they ordinarily wouldn’t have to thousands and thousands of fairgoers who would enjoy them performing maybe at their birthday party or social event,” she said.
