'CSI' researchers, actors to be featured at county science fair

News Release -- KCSOS

Kern County Regional Science Fair will give students a glimpse into the science of TV's "Crime Scene Investigation" (CSI) before they get judged on the projects they have researched for the 24th annual event on March 29 at the Rabobank Convention Center in Bakersfield. "CSI" researchers and actors David Berman and Jon Wellner will make their presentation to students from 9-10 a.m., thanks to a Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics grant through California State University, Bakersfield and Bakersfield College. Then, approximately 500 students in grades 4-12 will have their projects judged from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. General public viewing of displays takes place from 1-3:30 pm. An awards ceremony follows from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Most first or second place finishers may be eligible to compete in the 60th annual California Science Fair to be held May 2-3 at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.

Judging will concentrate on scientific thought/engineering goals, creativity, organization, completeness, clarity, effort and motivation. Students have to explain their displays, log books and hypothesis to a panel of judges.

The science fair is administered by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools with primary sponsorship provided by Aera Energy LLC. Additional sponsorship and support is offered by Chevron North America Exploration and Production, Occidental of Elk Hills, Kern County Science Foundation, Tejon Ranch Company, Comprehensive Blood & Cancer Center and TYBRIN Corporation.
