Sports reporter Mike Griffith on Bakersfield's hockey team.
Even a remake of the snake bit Condors could not lift them into the rarefied air of back-to-back victories.
With four new players in the lineup over the past two weeks, the Condors started the weekend with a solid 4-2 win over Colorado on Friday night.
As has happened so often this year, the Condors goaltender got out played by the opponent's goaltender in the elusive quest of back-to-back wins.
On Saturday night Bryan Pitton stopped 27 shots for Bakersfield, Kyle Jones stopped 41 for Colorado and the Eagles won 3-1.
The Condors are now 0-for-6 in attempts for back-to-back wins since starting the season with two straight victories. Three of the losses in those games have come by a goal.
To be fair, the rebuilt Condors — forwards Alex Hudson and Aaron Lewadniuk and defensemen Ryan Annesley and Josh Van Dyk have joined the team recently and forward Evan Trupp will arrive soon — do look better.
But the end result — close losses —remains the same.
Now it's back to square one: Trying to get a win so they can start on that quest for two straight once again.
