Fire damages Delano residence
At 4:57 a.m. Wednesday, Kern County firefighters responded to the 1700 block of Jefferson Street in Delano.
There was a developing fire in the attic space of the residence. Eight people were home and escaped before firefighters arrived.
The home did not have a smoke detector. One of the residents woke to the smell of smoke and alerted the others.
The fire destroyed an estimated $15,000 in property and contents. The cause was determined to be an electrical short in the attic space.
No injuries were reported.
