Two injured in crash east of Highway 14

At 2:55 p.m. Thursday, a PT Cruiser driven by Grace Rodriguez, of Trona, was traveling eastbound on Redrock-Randsburg Road east of State Route 14. She lost control of her vehicle and it crossed over and entered the opposite lane.

Her vehicle collided with a truck and trailer combination driven by Richard Sexton III, of Palmdale. After colliding with the truck, the PT Cruiser overturned onto its side. Rodriguez suffered severe injuries to her left arm. A passenger in the PT Cruiser, Paulette Rodriguez, suffered minor injuries. Sexton was uninjured.

All occupants were wearing their seatbelts. The use of alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this collision.

The collision remains under investigation, but statements from Grace Rodriguez indicate she may have fallen asleep. The California Highway Patrol wants to remind drivers that sleepy drivers are just as dangerous as drunk drivers. Nationwide countless injuries and deaths result from accidents caused by sleepy drivers.
