An apartment complex in Arvin caught fire Friday evening, causing $300,000 in damage.
No one was killed or injured.
The Kern County Fire Department received a call about 5:30 p.m. about an eight-unit apartment complex that was burning in the 700 block of Meyer Street.
Crews found smoke and flames coming from an exterior stairway shared by four of the units.
With assistance from the Arvin Police Department, all of the residents were safely evacuated.
Six of the units were saved, protecting about $900,000 in property value, but there was $300,000 in damage to two units and their contents, according to the fire department.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Unattended lit candles may have been involved, according to the fire department.
The Red Cross is assisting displaced families.
