Where Bakersfield and the web collide.
Columnists at The Bakersfield Californian and Las Vegas Review-Journal have been having a bit of fun in taking one another to task for poor humor and thin skins.
The exchange started back in early January when Review-Journal columnist Adam Hill took a few shots at Bakersfield, something Bakosphere was eager to highlight.
Bakersfield Observed blogger and Bakersfield Californian columnist Richard Beene took it from there, taking a few shots at Hill's "boorish rant."
Hill recently responded in his Leftovers column with a post titled "Bakersfield retort short on humor."
"We at Leftovers aren't so much hurt as we are disappointed" Beene didn't capitalize on Vegas' shortcomings.
"Here, after all, was a golden opportunity to play into the Las Vegas stereotypes -- hookers on every corner, seniors blowing their Social Security checks at penny slot machines, a surrounding desert filled with people who, ahem, 'disappeared.'
"We aren't a difficult target."
(In fact, our Bakosphere commenters gave Hill exactly what he asked for, amending our original post with their own slaps at Sin City's prostitutes, sex advertising, crime rate and more).
Hill closes his response with "Las Vegas, after all, can take a joke."
