In December 2009, Jamie traded cows for carrots and joined the staff of the Bakersfield Californian. When she's not wrangling online blogs and comments, Jamie is raising her young son, inevitably playing fetch with her dogs, working on completing her master's degree, wishing she had time to run a fourth marathon, and searching for Mr. Right.
Read more of this bioYesterday was a banner day for new users registering to comment on Bakersfield.com. Big news stories always spur a lot of folks to comment. We thank all of you for your civil comments and condolences for the families living through the tragedy in Oildale.
That said, along with a large number of people registering, I recieved a few "bounce backs" once registrations were approved. Remember, we do this manually right now to prevent spammers. It's been extremely successful in that regard.
Many people have their email accounts -- mainly Earthlink and AOL accounts -- set to recieve email only from people they know. If that's the case, you won't get the registration confirmation from registration@bakersfield.com.
In a few instances, I've recieved an email from someone asking why their registration wasn't approved, and when I replied, THAT email also bounced back to me.
So please make sure your email account will accept email from registration@bakersfield.com or just the @bakersfield.com domain. Otherwise, we have no way to confirm your registration, contact you, or reply to any of your questions.
P.S. We also are not approving registrations with blatantly inflammatory usernames, where real names are identical to usernames, or where information (address, date of birth, etc ...) is missing. The latter is to ensure a smooth transition to our new registration system in the next few months. That information will not be displayed online. More on that can be found here.
