In December 2009, Jamie traded cows for carrots and joined the staff of the Bakersfield Californian. When she's not wrangling online blogs and comments, Jamie is raising her young son, inevitably playing fetch with her dogs, working on completing her master's degree, wishing she had time to run a fourth marathon, and searching for Mr. Right.

    Online meet-up tomorrow!

Time for me to get out of the office for first time in 2012.

Join me for our January Community Meet-Up from 9-11 a.m. tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 27) at the downtown Starbucks on 24th and L streets.

Grab a cup of coffee and a chair, and hang out. I’ve really enjoyed meeting our online users in the past and hope I’ve been able to answer your questions.

Commenting down; we're working on it

We're aware of the issue with log in and folks being unable to comment. We're working on the issue and hope to have it up and running soon. Thanks for your patience.

Registration changes coming to Bakersfield.com WEDNESDAY

    Yes, it's finally time.

The database has been scrubbed, holiday vacations (and tonsillectomies) are over, testing was successful, and the wires are all uncrossed (we hope).

Beginning early Wednesday morning, you will see a new screen when you log in to comment on an article or blog here on Bakersfield.com.

    IMPORTANT: Registering to comment

Yesterday was a banner day for new users registering to comment on Bakersfield.com. Big news stories always spur a lot of folks to comment. We thank all of you for your civil comments and condolences for the families living through the tragedy in Oildale.

That said, along with a large number of people registering, I recieved a few "bounce backs" once registrations were approved. Remember, we do this manually right now to prevent spammers. It's been extremely successful in that regard.

Many people have their email accounts -- mainly Earthlink and AOL accounts -- set to recieve email only from people they know. If that's the case, you won't get the registration confirmation from registration@bakersfield.com.

    Happy holidays!

Make sure your B.com account moves to our new system

You may or may not have seen that we're preparing to make some changes to our online registration system -- the one used to comment on these blogs and news articles.

All users who have logged in during the past six months will be transfered, provided their online profile is complete.

If your profile is not complete, you received an email from me last week letting you know that you are missing some information required for our new system. If you received an email and you'd like to have your account transferred to our new system, please log in ASAP and update your information (instructions below).

"Hey, did ya see my photo online?"

"Hey Jamie, that was cool that your photo was on Bakersfield.com."

"I just happened to be in the right place at the right time"

"And you know how to take good photos."
