Q: I have another political sign question.
Why hasn't Andy Vidak been required to take down all of his "Vidak for Congress" campaign signs? They are scattered on several roads around the county, including Highway 99, Stockdale Highway, Highway 58 (west of Bakersfield) and Lerdo Highway.

Q: I just finished reading the Ask The Californian and I am not happy with political signs littering our highways. I drive daily on Highway 119 and there are several signs for Vidak posted on the sides of the road. There are like four at the corner of Wible Road and 119.
These have been there for months and I too wonder why they have not been removed. I also believe that those that put up yard sale signs all over should be responsible enough to take them down after the sale is over. If not then there should be some kind of fine to the person at the address of where the sale was conducted.

A: First a little background: Vidak won the 20th Congressional District Republican primary in June. He is now running in the November general election against incumbent Democrat Jim Costa.
In county jurisdictions of Kern, candidates can put up temporary political signs 90 days before an election. So any Vidak signs up now, at least, in the county fall in the allowable time period. By the way, the rule is 60 days before an election in the city of Bakersfield.
