Q: I was wondering when the Bakersfield Police Department will start enforcing the 25 mph construction zone speed limit at Truxtun Avenue and Mohawk Street?

Cars still travel through this section at the regular posted 50 mph limit during construction times. The sign is clearly posted and construction is clearly taking place on the Mohawk extension.

The police department could certainly make a fortune on citations for speeding through the construction zone, especially since it is a double fine zone as well.

A: Bakersfield police Sgt. Mary DeGeare said the department has not seen an increase in accidents, hazards or complaints at Truxtun and Mohawk and so hasn’t increased or decreased enforcement there.

If an officer sees a violation there, DeGeare has said, he or she will write a citation.

She wanted to let folks know that if they report traffic dangers somewhere, BPD will step up enforcement. People can do so by calling 326-3882 (you’ll need to leave a message on a recording) or go online to www.bakersfieldpd.us.
