Does anyone clean up this undercrossing?

Q: Recently I had some business at the courthouse. A train was stopped across L Street, so I used the train undercrossing along Chester Avenue. I was disgusted to have to walk on pigeon droppings and have to worry about pigeons flying over my head as I crossed under the tracks.

My question for The Californian is do these walkways ever get cleaned up? It was bad enough to walk on this undercrossing on a dry day but I can only hope I never have to use it when it is raining. I feel sorry for the people who use this crossing daily as it cannot be healthy.

A: Bakersfield Public Works Director Raul Rojas responded:

Our street cleaning crew goes out twice a week, usually on Mondays and Fridays, to clean the walkway with shovels and brooms and at times have to use a power washer to clean the area when it gets really bad. Citizens can always call the Streets Division office at 326-3111 and someone will be sent out to clean it if needed more often.
