The Lionel Richie-less Commodores, whose “Brick House” is a go-to jam for any self-respecting wedding reception deejay, will kick off the live entertainment at the 2016 Kern County Fair on opening night, Sept. 21.

Other big gets for the annual 12-day event are classic rock stalwarts Grand Funk Railroad on Sept. 28 and R&B vocal group Boys II Men on Sept. 29.

The remaining acts hitting the stage at Budweiser Pavilion are:

Country singer Clay Walker on Sept. 22; Queen Nation, a tribute band to the Freddie Mercury-led arena rockers, on Sept. 23; “American Idol” alum and frequent Bakersfield visitor Kellie Pickler on Sept. 24; local act Mento Buru and Latin Grammy-nominated Banda Carnvaval on Sept. 25; country singer Dustin Lynch on Sept. 26; Christian pop duo For King & Country Sept. 27; alternative rock act Hinder on Sept. 30; “Fight Song” singer-songwriter Rachel Platten on Oct. 1; and Latin music performers Pablo Montero and Ana Victoria on Oct. 2, the fair’s final day.

Start time is 8 p.m. for all concerts except the Mento Buru show, which begins at 3 p.m. The concerts are free with paid fair admission of $10 for adults (discounted fair tickets will be available in coming weeks at Vallarta Supermarkets and other locations).
