Shirley and Larry Underwood

Underwood’s 50th Anniversary
Shirley Joan Thomas and Larry Bert Underwood were married January 15th, 1960. Their journey of love and hope began as childhood sweethearts in Arvin, California.
Since that time God has richly blessed them with two children – their son Steven and his wife Elisa, and their daughter, Stacey (Underwood) Rueb; four granddaughters Natalie, Stephanie, Meghan-Elizabeth, and Kaylynee; and one grandson, Zachary. Shirley and Larry’s lives are further enriched by their loving Riverlakes Community Church family who have nurtured their spiritual growth in Christ Jesus and where they have served in ministry for over 42 years.
Larry retired from the Kern County Fire Department in 1998 and Shirley retired the same year from Kern County Waste Management. Together they have traveled throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Europe and China. They are celebrating their anniversary in April 2010 with a trip to Paris and a cruise down the River Seine that includes a tour of the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial.
