Cole Hallum pitched eight scoreless innings Tuesday to lead the Bakersfield College baseball team to an 8-0 victory over Los Angeles Valley College in a Western State Conference South division opener at Gerry Collis Field.

Hallum (3-0) kept the Monarchs (6-6) in check by allowing only five hits. He struck out two and walked two.

Rolando Martinez and Junior Felix led BC with three hits apiece. Kaidan Meadows had two hits and a team-best three RBIs, and Erik Williams added two hits and three runs.

Reliever Isaias Luna pitched a scoreless ninth for the Renegades (5-8). BC ripped 13 hits off four Valley pitchers, scoring five earned runs in four innings off Monarchs starter Stewart Alexander (1-2).

SANTA MARIA -- Katie Hoffman went 3 for 3 with a run scored to lead the Bakersfield College softball team to a 5-4 victory over Allan Hancock College in a non-conference game.

Vanessa Morales went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and Marisela Gonzalez went 2 for 2 with an RBI for BC (4-9), which rallied from a 2-0 deficit with two runs in the fifth, and added two more in the sixth. BC pitcher Amanda Bundy earned the win. She struck out one, walked six and gave up 11 hits.

Wasco High Hall to induct six

Wasco High's Athletic Hall of Fame will induct six new members in a ceremony March 20 at the Wasco/Shafter Elks Lodge.

Inductees are Gordon Skeels (class of 1954), a four-year football starter and baseball player; Don Perales (1964), who coached basketball for 36 years at Lindsay High; Milton Stowe (1970), a Sacramento State baseball player and an NCAA basketball official; Michael Serda (1991), a two-time state placer in wrestling; Vandy Noldon (2000), who led the Lady Tigers' basketball to three section basketball titles; and Aaron Merz (2001), who played football at Cal and the Buffalo Bills.

Contributors to Wasco High athletics also being recognized are Wayne Wallace and Charles Guyton.

A cocktail hour will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 and then the ceremony. Tickets ($30) are available at 640 E Street in Wasco or by calling (661) 758-5348.
