The memorial service for former Frontier football player Ted Agu will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Philip the Apostle Church in Bakersfield.
Agu, who was a senior football player at Cal, died the morning Feb. 7 after a team training run in Berkeley. He was 21. Cal held a memorial service for Agu on Wednesday.
Burial services are at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery.
ESPN will air an "SC Featured" episode on the Mendota High School football team across several platforms today.
The story chronicles the rise of the Mendota football team, which depends on many immigrant players who must work agricultural fields in addition to attending school and practicting. Despite those obstacles, the Aztecs won back-to-back Central Section Division VI titles in 2011 and 2012 and finished as Division V runner-up this past season.
The episode debuts at 6 a.m. on ESPN, and it will air on SportsCenter at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., with an extended hour-long version airing at 8 a.m. on ESPN2.
A Spanish-language version of the story airs at 6 p.m. on ESPN Deportes, and a digital version of the story will appear on ESPN.com.
Blaze announce seasonal job fair
The Bakersfield Blaze is planning to hire more than 100 employees for the upcoming baseball season at a job fair, March 15 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Bakersfield Marriott.
The Blaze will be hiring for the following positions: bat boy, stadium usher, concessions staff, waiter/waitress staff, bag check staff, merchandise store salesperson,ticket booth representative, Kid's Zone staff, and more.
Job seekers are required to bring their resume to the event to apply. Applicants without resumes will not be considered for open positions.
The Bakersfield Jam's James Nunnally had 10 points and three rebounds, and teammate Ike Diogu added eight points and six rebounds for to help the Prospects to a 145-142 victory over the Futures in the NBA D-League All-Star game in New Orleans.
Robert Covington of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, playing on assignment from the Houston Rockets, scored 33 points and added six rebounds and three steals on his way to being named game MVP.
