Bakersfield Christian senior linebacker Grant Bouma will sign a preferred walk-on agreement on National Signing Day on Wednesday to play college football at Texas Tech.

A preferred walk-on means Bouma doesn't receive a scholarship but is guaranteed a spot on the Red Raiders' roster when practice starts this summer.

Bouma, the BVarsity Defensive Player of the Year, had 250 tackles to lead the state, according to MaxPreps. He led the Eagles to a Central Section Division IV title and a berth in the D-IV state bowl championship.

Three other local high school players are set to sign letters of intent and scholarship agreements on Wednesday: Bakersfield quarterback Asauni Rufus, who will play defensive back at Nevada; Bakersfield defensive back Kevin Hayes, who's going to Oregon State; and Frontier defensive lineman Colton Foster, who will sign with Colorado State.
