OREM, Utah -- In a battle for second place in the Western Athletic Conference, Cal State Bakersfield rallied from 14-12 down in the fifth set to defeat Utah Valley 9-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 16-14.

Debora Araujo led the 'Runners with 16 kills, Shayna Guitare had 12 kills and Julia Bowen tied a career high with nine kills.

Other contributors include: Molly O'Hagan (11 kills, eight blocks), Sara Little (seven kills), Fernanda Goncalves (50 assists, 12 digs, four blocks).

The Roadrunners travel to Grand Canyon on Monday for a 6 p.m. start. If CSUB can win its remaining two matches (at Grand Canyon and Texas-Pan American), it would earn the second seed and a first round bye at the WAC Tournament, Nov. 25-27, at Grand Canyon.

In the decisive fifth game, the Roadrunners (18-11, 10-4) scored the final four points, capped by a block by O'Hagan and Goncalves.

Utah Valley gained control in the final game thanks to solid play from Lauren Stringham.

Stringham had 11 kills and 10 blocks, including one of each to give her team a two-point lead.

BC wrestling

Bakersfield College went 1-3 in the Souteast Conference Championships, but five wrestlers earned all-conference honors Saturday at the Gil Bishop Sports Center.

Max Ramirez (157 pounds) and Arko Petrosyan (197) were first-team selections, while Johnathan Gomez (149), Dillon Harroun (174) and Josh Davis (Heavyweight) were named honorable mention.

BC defeated Victor Valley 40-6, then lost to Cuesta (35-16), West Hills (30-12) and East L.A. (30-22).

"The scores aren't really indicative," Renegades coach Bill Kalivas said. "We were overmatched, but we've been hurt by ineligibility and injuries."

The wrestlers will now prepare for the SoCal Regionals slated for Dec. 7 at East L.A.

BC women's basketball

MOORPARK -- Leigha Moland led the Renegades with 15 points, but it wasn't enough as Bakersfield College fell to Moorpark 60-48.

Nakia Page added 11 points and seven rebounds for BC (1-2), which trailed at haltime 32-20.

Rose Brook-Hunt added seven steals.

The Renegades are next in action on Tuesday against Santa Barbara City College at 7 p.m.
