American Academy's level 4 and 5 teams totaled 12 gold medals over the weekend competing against some of the best in Southern California at the Wondergirl Cup in Santa Clarita. Katelynn Mitchell rocketed to the top with and all-around score of 37.00 and also won the uneven bars (9.2) and floor exercise (9.15). Other gold-medal finishers were: Kayleigh Perry (beam, 9.6), Rebekah Powell (vault, 9.25), Victoria Rosales (vault, 9.175) and Dulce Felizarta (floor, 8.95). Level 5 gymnast Dalilia Olivera won the all-around (35.675), giving her a first place in the vault (9.175), bars (8.75) and exercise (8.625). Samantha Noe earned gold on the vault (9.25). The level 4-5 teams earned a second place finish. Other silver medal teammates: Elena Caballero, Sarah Graessley, Alise Lowe, Gizzelle Handschumacher, Alexandria Neal and Julie Rogers.

American Academys' Level 3 squad, competing against seven teams, had a standout performance Sunday at The Wondergirl Cup in Santa Clarita. American's Kaylee Goeller took first place in all-around (38.05) and also won on the bars (9.4), beam (9.625) and floor (9.625). Ashlyn Gurney placed first in her age division with a 37.425 and was first on the bar (9.3) and floor (9.425). Vanessa Chuang earned a gold in the all-around in the 11 and up division with a 36.8 and was first on vault and floor (9.25s). Other gold-medal finishes were from Jaqueline Guzman all-around (36.475), vault (9.4) bar (9.35), Reanna Rowland (bars, 9.55), Lorelai Murphy (vault, 9.7), Ellie Prince (floor, 9.3), Kayla Lum (floor, 8.975), and Mylee Watson (bars, 9.35; beam, 9.6). Also on American's first-place team: Parris Beckham, Sydney Lovan, Alyssabella Teixeira, Haylie Sipe, Abbey Lowe, Victoria Moore, Rosemarie Menta, Emily Chaffee, Claire Banducci, Lauren Smith, Macie Lum and Chloe Chavez.

Bakersfield's Team Khaos 13U placed second over the weeked in the Baseball Legends Cancer Awareness Classic in Hawaiian Gardens.


Bakersfield Bobby Sox, for girls ages 4-18, will hold signups for the 2014 season 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Ellis Island Pizza Company, in the Wild West Shopping center on Stockdale Highway and Real Road. There are no tryouts. Every girl will play, regardless of experience. If your daughter is new to Bobby Sox, please bring a copy of her birth certificate to the registration. Cost is $80, plus a $25 refundable snack bar deposit for the Mini Sox division (ages 4-6) and $110 for all other age divisions. Experienced umpires are needed.
