Former Frontier High star Meghan Shain shot three straight 73s to tie for seventh place in the Boise State Bronco Invitational this week in Kuna, Idaho.
Playing the Falcon Crest Golf Club, Shain's Santa Clara teammates shot a combined 875 (+11) to beat host Boise State by seven shots.
Kaci McCartan of SC was the winner with rounds of 71-69-75 for a 1-under-par 215 score. SC's freshman Annie Freman was equal second at 217, two shots in front of Shain, who is a sophomore.
It was McCartan's first collegiate win and Santa Clara's first team win since November 2011.
The annual Ladies Back to Basics Golf Clinic will be at Foss-Kern River Sept.24-27 from 9-10:30am each day. Entry is $60 and space is limited. Posture, Grip, Set-up, woods, irons, putting and chipping, this clinic has it all.

RiverLakes Amateur Championship
The 13th RiverLakes Amateur Championship will be Sept. 28-29 at The Links at RiverLakes Ranch and entries will be accepted through Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. Entry is $100 and includes two rounds of golf and awards. Depending upon entries, there will be a championship flight and net flights.
Last year, Nick Mears shot rounds of 73-71 to win the tournament at even-par 144, a two shot win over Ron Killmer who won in 2003 and 2009.
The tournament is part of the Michelob Ultra/Sports Authority Player of the Year series and points will be awarded to the top 10 in championship flight play.
Currently, Manav Shah leads the points race with 46, followed by Ron Killmer with 42 and Blake McPherson with 36. Only the Kern County Amateur at the end of October remains on he schedule.
The tournament record is 7-under-par 137 by Bhavik Patel in 2008. Patel shot rounds of 67 and 70. The 67 is a first round scoring record and Patel also owns the second round record of 69 with Killmer. Killmer shot 69 in 2003 and Patel shot 69 in 2006.

The PGA Tour is in its final event of the playoffs. A total of 30 players are playing this week in the Tour Cchampionship at East lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga. to determine the Fed-Ex Cup champion. The champion earns a $10 million bonus check.
Just when you thought that the Stockdale High girls golf team was a clear No.1, they get beat. Liberty posted a 430 score to beat Stockdale by two shots in the SWYL mini at Mifflin-Buena Vista on Wednesday. Centennial was third at 447.
