SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Texas State scored three runs in the seventh inning to pull away for a 5-2 victory over visiting Cal State Bakersfield at Bobcat Ballpark.
CSUB (29-15, 12-5 Western Athletic Conference) remains in first place in the WAC, one game ahead of Texas Arlington (23-20, 11-6 WAC), which suffered an 11-1 run-rule loss Saturday to New Mexico State (24-20, 9-8 WAC).
The Roadrunners have 10 conference games remaining, including today's 10 a.m. start at Texas State. CSUB beat the Bobcats in the first game of the series Friday.
On Saturday, CSUB tied the game, 2-2, in the fourth inning when Cael Brockmeyer tripled and scored on an error.
Roadrunners starter Scott Brattvet allowed two runs and five hits over six innings before being relieved by Hayden Carter in the seventh.
Carter walked the only two batters he faced before Tyler Aikenhead walked a third to load the bases with no outs. Texas State then scored the go-ahead run on an Andrew Stumph sacrifice fly and added an insurance run on an Austin O'Neal RBI single.
Brockmeyer gave CSUB a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single to score Oscar Sanay. Brockmeyer (2-for-3) and Sanay (2-for-4) were the only Roadrunners with multiple hits.
Brattvet, who got a no-decision, struck out nine, walked three and had two wild pitches.
