The season is over for the Bakersfield College men's golf team, as the team nor any individuals qualified to advance to the So Cal Regional Championships on May 6.

The Renegades finished the Western State Conference Championships with a 5th place finish on Monday at the par-72 Soule Park golf course in Ojai. They shot a combined 767 for 36 holes, using the top five scores in each round. That was 40 strokes behind College of the Canyons.

With the team not qualifying, it was up to any Renegade individual to finish in the top six to advance to Regionals. The closest BC player to advancing was Travis Millwee, who carded rounds of 74-72 and finished just one stroke from advancing.

Millwee and Neil Bautista were the two most consistent BC players throughout the season, both averaging around 75-76. Bautista shot a pair of 77s in the WSC event while Paul Cooper (75-74), Kevin Antongiovanni (81-78), Jake Jacobus (81-79) and Zac Casberg (84-80) rounded out the BC scores.

Bakersfield pro Bhavik Patel had a nice opening round in the South Georgia Classic in Valdosta on Thursday on the Tour.

Patel shot a 5-under 67 and was in a 3-way tied for second just a single stroke behind the first round leader Ryan Spears at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.

The tour took last week off and will remain in Georgia next week with the Stadion Classic at the University of Georgia in Athens.

Patel is 31st on the season money list with $31,700 in earnings. The top 25 at the end of the year will receive exemptions onto the PGA Tour for 2014.

Player of the Year Schedule set

The Michelob Ultra/Sports Authority Player of the Year Series schedule has been set for the 2013 year competition.

Normally, the Arvin City Amateur kicks things off in May, but after repeated attempts to get the course to finalize a date this year, there are no plans by the course management to hold the tournament, which has been in existence since 1995.

The first event on the schedule will now be the North of the River Championship at Haggerty-North Kern June 22-23. The Bakersfield City Amateur at Sundale CC will follow July 27-28 and the Taft City Amateur will be Aug. 24-25 at Mifflin-Buena Vista.

Rounding out the schedule will be the RiverLakes Championship at The Links at RiverLakes Ranch on Sept. 28-29 and the Kern County Amateur Oct.26-27 at NK and BV.

Players earn points for top 10 finishes in championship flight play and the top 10 after the KC Amateur receive gift certificates from Sports Authority sponsored by SA and Michelob Ultra (Advance Beverage). The champion also receives the winners bronze trophy and the perpetual trophy is displayed at the champions' home course for the following year.

Ron Killmer is the defending champion and the perpetual trophy is on display at his home course (Foss-Kern River).
