CULVER CITY -- Bakersfield College fell into a second-place tie in the Western State Conference South Division baseball standings Thursday with an 11-6 loss at West Los Angeles College.

The Renegades (24-11 overall, 16-7) had seven errors, which led to nine unearned runs.

BC concludes its regular season against West L.A. today at 6 p.m. at Gerry Collis Field.

The BC loss clinched first place for Glendale College (24-11, 18-5), which lost 10-6 at home to Citrus.

College of the Canyons (22-14, 16-7) pulled into a tie for second with BC by beating L.A. Mission 12-10 Thursday. Mission plays at Canyons today starting at 2:30 p.m.

The top two finishers in the WSC South qualify for the Southern California playoffs. Canyons has beaten the Renegades 3-of-4 in head-to-head games this season. Six at-large spots are also awarded for teams from throughout Southern California that do not finish in the top 2 of their respective conferences.

Erik Williams went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs for BC. Blayne Ontiveros also had two hits.

West L.A. (7-25 overall, 5-18 WSC South) broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the second. The Oilers led 8-1 after four innings.

CSUB baseball team visits Texas St.

Cal State Bakersfield's first-place Western Athletic Conference baseball team travels to Texas State for a three-game series starting today at 4:30 p.m.

CSUB (28-14 overall, 11-4 WAC) is one game ahead of Texas-Arlington and two games ahead of Texas State (18-22, 9-6).

CSUB comes into this series with seven wins in its last eight games.

Taft blanked by Reedley

REEDLEY -- Reedley College pitchers Nick Lee and Jacob Salmonson combined on a six-hit shutout as the Pirates beat Taft College 4-0 in a Central Valley Conference baseball game.

Reedley (13-22 overall, 8-15 CVC) scored twice in the first inning and twice in the fifth. Taft fell to 11-23-1 and 8-15 in CVC play.

Battle of Badges set for May 11

The 19th Annual Battle of the Badges, a card of boxing matches pitting an assortment of local fire, police, sheriff's, California Highway Patrol and corrections officers, is set for 7 p.m. May 11 at Bakersfield College.

The event, presented by Budweiser and the Bakersfield Police Activities League, is a fundraiser for the Bakersfield Police Activities League.

General admission tickets are $20 apiece, and ringside seats are $40. Tickets are available at the PAL Center (301 E. 4th St. in Bakersfield), Bakersfield Police Department Westside Substation, the BPD downtown station and Mr. Tuxedo (2409 Brundage Ln.).
