Good try but all CSUB right fielder Sydney Raber can do is hang onto the fence and watch a Hawaii home run sail by to make the game 4-0 in the fourth inning.

Shay Fryer's solo home run was Cal State Bakersfield's lone run in a 8-1 loss to No. 15-ranked Hawaii on Tuesday at Roadrunner Softball Complex.

Kayla Wartner went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs and Kelly Majam went 3-for-4 with three runs to lead Hawaii (34-8).

CSUB used four pitchers, all of whom allowed at least two runs.

The Roadrunners (13-26), who have won seven of 11 games, return to Pacific Coast Softball Conference play this weekend when they host Saint Mary's in their final homestand of the year. The two teams, tied for fourth in the PCSC standings with 8-8 records, play doubleheaders at noon on Saturday and Sunday.

Barr fires 83 to lead CSUB women's golfers

BREMERTON, Wash. -- Cal State Bakersfield freshman Jordanne Barr shot an 11-over 83 -- posting the low team score for the second consecutive day -- and sits in 19th place heading into the final day of the West Coast Conference Championships at Gold Mountain Golf Club.

After shooting 78 on Monday, Barr, a Frontier High graduate, is at 17-over 161. Freshman Michelle Martel (Frontier High) is in 26th after shooting 84. Malea Miller (Bakersfield College) is in 28th after shooting 85. Lexi Keeter (Frontier High) and Micah Lopez (East High) are tied for 29th after shooting 89 and 93, respectively.

Pepperdine is in first place with a 582 team score. CSUB (683) and is in last place among six teams.

Moorehead's bat lifts Taft past West Hills baseball

TAFT -- Matt Moorehead finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Taft College to a 9-0 home victory over West Hills College.

Pitchers Brandon Van Stone and Michael Vaquera combined for the shut out and Dayton Kurian finished with two RBIs and three runs scored for the Cougars.

Taft (10-20-1, 7-12 Central Valley Conference) will host Porterville College on Thursday at 2 p.m.

Long Beach State blanks CSUB in sand volleyball

LONG BEACH -- No. 2-ranked Long Beach State shut out Cal State Bakersfield 5-0 in sand volleyball. CSUB (4-5) next plays in the USAV Invitational in Hermosa Beach on Saturday and Sunday.

CSUB pitcher McKenzie named to 'watch list'

Cal State Bakersfield pitcher Jeff McKenzie was selected to the initial watch list for the 2013 Pitcher of the Year Award, which is presented during the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions on April 13.

McKenzie (8-1 record, 1.56 ERA) is the lone WAC representative on the list which features 41 players from across the country.

CSUB baseball visits Fresno

Valley rivals Cal State Bakersfield and Fresno State meet for the 21st time tonight when the Roadrunners visit Fresno for a 6:35 start. It is the first of three consecutive weeks CSUB and Fresno State play a weekday game.

BC volleyball's Bernardin to sign with Alabama

Bakersfield College volleyball player Caitlin Bernardin, an outside hitter for the Renegades, will sign a letter of intent today to play volleyball for Alabama, according to a press release from the college. Barnardin, a Garces High graduate, ranked second in the state with 4.89 kills per game ratio was named to the All-American AVCA 2nd team.

Condors goalie Greenham gets tryout with AHL team

The Bakersfield Condors announced that goalie Scott Greenham has signed a professional tryout with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League. He began the 2012-13 season in training camp with the Senators before coming to Bakersfield. Greenham, 25, finished the year with an 11-19-3 record with the Condors.
