Ridgeview senior Erica McCall scored seven points in a resounding 92-64 victory for the West team in the girls McDonald's All-American Basketball Game on Wednesday at the United Center in Chicago.

McCall, the Gatorade California Player of the Year and a Stanford signee, was 3-of-11 from the floor and 1-of-4 from the free-throw line. The West team was ahead by 10 points at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second half.

Mercedes Russell, a Springfield (Ore.) senior and Tennessee signee, was the game's MVP. She scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds.

Basketball all-star games Saturday

Mission Oak High School in Tulare will host North vs. South Senior All-Star Basketball Games for the second year Saturday, pitting 30 of the top boys and girls players in the Central Section against one another.

The girls game tips at 5 p.m., with a boys dunk contest and the boys game to follow at about 7.

Kern County stars will play for the respective South teams. Girls all-stars include: Katy Teare, Frazier Mountain; Claire Culbertson, Alex Green and Tatianna Powell, Ridgeview; Tiana Henry, Bakersfield; Leigha Moland, Nakia Page and Dakota Oliver, Stockdale; Rachol West, Garces; Hannah Ramirez, Shafter; and Megan Gregory of Cesar Chavez, who was selected but won't play because of injury.

On the boys side, locals playing are: Ryan Reagor, South; Jon Moore, Independence; Chris Ross and Keith McCants, Stockdale; Steven Contreras and Stephon Newsome, Bakersfield; Jake Martin and Brian Nunn, Liberty; Shepherd Brevil, Ridgeview; and Tim Pena, Garces.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for students, children and seniors. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Visalia Rescue Mission and Boys & Girls Club.

Shafter golf tournament

Shafter High School athletics is hosting its annual General Open golf tournament April 27, with proceeds benefiting the school's student-athletes. The tournament will take place at Haggerty-North Kern Golf Course with a modified shotgun start and a 4-man best-ball scramble format.
