TAFT -- Taft College capitalized on six Bakersfield College errors, scoring the winning runs in the sixth inning of a 7-6 non-conference softball win.

Lead-off hitter Chelsea Eli-Kido was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs for the Cougars (4-1-1).

The Renegades' No. 1 hitter Shelbe Pennel went 5-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Taft scored four runs in the first, but BC (0-4) rallied to take the lead, 6-5 with runs in the fourth and fifth.

Kris Jones was 3-for-5 and Brittney Roberts had two hits and two RBIs for the 'Gades, who host Santiago Canyon at 10 a.m. Friday, followed by a 4:45 p.m. matchup with Cypress.

Bell leads CSUB golfers

ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Cal State Bakersfield golfer Patrick Bell shot a 2-over-par 74 to finish the 36-hole Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational tournament with a 149 (75-74) to tie for 21st at Sunbrook Golf Club in an event hosted by Southern Utah.

Bell made 25 pars over the two-day tourney.

CSUB (616) finished 13th among 14 teams. Cal Poly (584) won the team title.

Other CSUB scores: Chase Goodvin (T41, 77-75--152), Matt Hammons (T73, 82-76--158) and Daniel Richardson (76th, 75-84--159) and tied for 76th place.

"It was very cold and we are still rusty from the long layoff from the fall," said CSUB coach Dave Barber. "We are looking forward to next week's event at Fullerton and some warmer weather."

CSUB will be back in action on Sunday when they tee off in the Cal State Fullerton Folino Invitational, a three-day event at Industry Hills Golf Course.
