An annual tradition in Bakersfield to keep the late Bud Hannaman's dream alive -- a local 10-gamer tournament that traditionally had been on Super Bowl Sunday -- will be held this coming Sunday (Feb. 17) at Regency Lanes. Hannaman loved to put on tournaments here locally to give bowlers a chance to experience bowling in a tournament. Organizers Russ Tweedy and Gary Cole have kept this event going when Hannaman was unable to run it due to his health. We lost Hannaman in March of 2012.
Bowlers will bowl 10 games across 20 lanes. The tournament starts at 10 a.m., and check-in is at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $60 if you sign up before Feb. 17 or $70 the day of the event. Tournament also features same-day payout to winners. You can also enter brackets and side pots.
This is also a handicapped tournament (80% of 220). Bowlers can use either their 6-Gamer average, their 2011-12 Book average, their 2012 Summer, or their current average of 21 games. If you don't have any of the above, you enter at 220. For information, contact Russ Tweedy (661) 303-2007 or Gary Cole (661) 302-7630.

Weekly super scores
-- Brian Kim rolled his third career 300 game Jan. 28, bowling in the Bakersfield Scratch Trio league at AMF Southwest Lanes. This was Kim's first 300 game using the two-hand delivery. Kim, who had a rough start for his first game that night, made an adjustment on the lanes and bowled the 300 game for his second game of the night and continued with four more strikes into his third game!
-- Bill Bumacod has been on a serious bowling roll. Besides posting some great scores bowling in his nightly leagues--279 game with an 810 series for Thursday night Marge's Social Group league on Jan. 31 at Regency--he's won the Coffee Club tournament the past two Sunday mornings at Regency with his partners and is probably the participant that has won the most since Coffee Club began a couple months ago.
