SANTA MONICA -- Bakersfield College rallied from an early 12-point deficit to topple Santa Monica College 71-64 in women's basketball on Saturday night.

Sophomore guard Haley Huntington led the Renegades (12-10 overall, 5-2 Western State Conference South Division) with a career-high 29 points, including 5-of-9 shooting from 3-point range.

"When she's on like that, it's absolutely huge," BC coach Paula Dahl said. "It was exiting to watch her break out and shoot with so much confidence."

BC outscored Santa Monica 28-18 to close the half trailing 32-30. The Renegades used tough defense to pull away in the second half, recording 14 steals in the game and outrebounding Santa Monica (8-15, 0-7 WSCS), 44-31.

BC now trails L.A. Valley (6-1) by one game in the conference standings. L.A. Valley's lone league loss is to the Renegades.

BC hosts two Coaches vs. Cancer games this week -- Wednesday against Glendale College at 7, and Saturday against College of the Canyons at 7. Fans can make donations at the game, with 100 percent of donations going to cancer research. BC will wear pink uniforms.

Santa Monica tops BC in men's basketball

SANTA MONICA -- Santa Monica College handed Bakersfield College a 96-85 loss in men's basketball loss. Van Holloway paced the Renegades with 15 points, all on 3-pointers. The Renegades are 9-11 overall and 3-3 in the Western State Conference South Division.

Taft baseball team rallies past Harbor

TAFT -- Travis Tessandori's safety squeeze bunt in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Taft College to a 4-3 baseball win over Los Angeles Harbor. The game ended at that point by mutual agreement because of darkness.

Tessandori had three hits and scored a run. Clint Jorgensen and Matt Moorehead had RBI doubles for Taft (2-1). Starting pitcher Brandon Van Stone allowed four hits and one walk with four strikeouts in 61/3 innings for the Cougars. Harbor is 0-2.

CSUB water polo team falls to ranked foes

RIVERSIDE -- The Cal State Bakersfield women's water polo team dropped matches against nationally ranked opponents, falling 11-6 to No. 6 UC Irvine and then 10-6 to No. 7 San Diego State.

The morning match was tied 6-6 before the Anteaters scored five unanswered goals for the victory. Jessica Browning scored two goals for CSUB. Chiyeko Morisaki made her first career start in goal for the Roadrunners and posted nine saves.

Paige Tsuruda scored two goals for the Roadrunners in the afternoon match.

CSUB play at the UC San Diego Triton Classic next weekend.

Jam thumps Toros

Six Bakersfield players scored in double figures as the Jam toppled the Austin Toros 107-83 at the Dignity Health Event Center.

Jerel McNeal and Renaldo Major each scored 20 points to lead Bakersfield (19-9) past Austin (14-12). Adam Koch had 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Jam.
