Jerel McNeal scored 21 points and center Brian Butch grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Bakersfield Jam to a 99-89 victory Monday over the Santa Cruz Warriors in a showdown for first place in the NBA D-League's West Division.
Bakersfield (15-7) moved into sole posession of first place in the division, a game ahead of Santa Cruz (14-8).
Bakersfield outscored the Warriors 28-16 in the third quarter to pull ahead 75-61 lead, and Santa Cruz could never find a groove on offense.
The Warriors shot just 36 percent, and the Jam defense helped to force Santa Cruz into 20 turnovers.
Forward Renaldo Major added 16 points for Bakersfield, guard Diante Garrett added 15 and Butch scored 13. Guard Stefhon Hannah led the Warriros with 24 points.
LaFranchise shines vs. CSUB
DAVIS -- UC Davis freshman Lucy LaFranchise, a Liberty High graduate, placed second Saturday in the 1- and 3-meter diving competition to help the Aggies beat Cal State Bakersfield 176-113 in a women's swimming and diving dual meet at Schaal Aquatics Center.
LaFranchise's score of 266.48 on the 1-meter qualified her for NCAA regionals. Her teammate Hanna Tears won both diving events, scoring 278.40 in the 1-meter and 292.35 in the 3-meter. La Franchise scored 262.58 on the 3-meter.
