Khiylah Dean had a team-high 12 points and five steals to lead the Bakersfield College women's basketball team to a 55-49 victory over L.A. Valley at the Gil Bishop Sports Center on Saturday.
BC led 26-21 at the half and took an 11-point lead with less than five minutes left. However, the Monarchs rallied to close within 52-49 when Kayla Turner scored with two minutes left.
BC (10-9, 3-1 Western State South Conference South) held Valley (13-8, 2-1) scoreless the rest of the way while MacKenzie Odle and Brittany Smith combined to make three free throws to extend the lead.
Haley Huntington made 3-of-5 3-pointers, accounting for all nine of her points. Smith finished with nine points and 13 rebounds.
DAVIS -- The Roadrunners won four events in a 176-113 loss at UC Davis.
"Our team swam well today," CSUB director of swimming Chris Hansen said in a press release. "Unfortunately, two of our biggest scorers (Michaela Paige and Lily Donohue) did not swim today. They are coming off an injury and the flu respectively."
Ali Gillespie won the 500 freestyle (5:07.25), Nicolette Goncalves won the 100 butterfly (58.22) and Jeanette Dove placed first in the 200 IM (2:14.78).
Kelsey Lange, Anna Dravis, Louise Westergren and Kristin Koehler teamed to win the 200 free relay (1:42.84).
