Conroy Lester scored 24 points in leading the Bakersfield College men's basketball team to a 69-66 victory over Santa Monica College on Wednesday night at the Gil Bishop Sports Center.

It was a Western State South Conference opener for both teams. Madison Higgins missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer for Santa Monica, and Damian Robinson grabbed the defensive rebound with 2 seconds remaining. He was fouled with 0.2 seconds remaining and hit both free throws for the final score.

Robinson finished with 13 points. David Nwaba led Santa Monica with 26 points. BC next plays at Glendale College at 5 p.m. Saturday.

BC women roll, 65-58

Emilee Parks and Khyilah Dean hit back-to-back 3-pointers to break open a tie game and help give the Bakersfield College women's basketball team a 65-58 victory over Santa Monica College at BC.

Parks led the Renegades with 18 points in both teams' Western State South Conference opener.

Condors traden forward Cohen for defenseman

The Condors traded forward Zach Cohen to Greenville, S.C. for the rights to defenseman T.J. Fast and future considerations.

"We're getting healthy and bringing in new faces, which gives us a lot of bodies," Condors coach Matt O'Dette said. "We're going to continue to do everything we can to improve our team."

Cohen had 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 31 games for the Condors.

Fast, 25, has not played this season. He played 42 games in the American Hockey League last season with the Hamilton (Ontario) Bulldogs with one goal and four assists for five points. In four professional seasons, the Fast has played 113 ECHL games split between Alaska and Cincinnati. During that time he recorded 19 goals and 40 assists for 59 points.

The Condors host Idaho on Friday and Saturday.

Jam falls to Maine

The Bakersfield Jam (11-7) mounted a strong fourth quarter run to erase a double digit deficit but came up short in a 131-124 loss to the Maine Red Claws (11-8) in the NBA D-League Showcase at the Reno Events Center.

Jerel McNeal shined for Bakersfield with 27 points, seven assists, five rebounds and five steals. Brian Butch had 23 points and 10 rebounds., and Damion James James scored 26.
