Looking to create a little more spark on offense, Bakersfield Condors coach Matt O'Dette has added a bit more grit by picking up rookie Brett Lyon on waivers.

Lyon (6-foot-2, 195 pounds) was waived by Orlando (Fla.) on Friday and arrived in Bakersfield on Saturday evening. He will play in today's game against Stockton

"One thing we don't have enough of is grit and character," O'Dette said of his team, which has just one win in its last nine games. "(Lyon) is a warrior. He's not going to light up the scoreboard but he's going to work his butt off. He hits everything that moves and fights."

Lyon, a left wing, played in just nine games for the Solar Bears, amassing 39 minutes in penalties with no points.

O'Dette reached Lyon by phone right after he flew back to British Columbia.

"He had just gotten off the plane and was ready to get on another one right away to come here," O'Dette said. "A lot of guys would have wanted to wait until the weekend was over and he wanted to get here right away.

"That's the type of guys I want: guys who want it.

"He's going to bring something to the table."
