LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Leonard Washington scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Wyoming men's basketball team over Cal State Bakersfield 63-49 on Saturday night.

Brandon Barnes scored 13, and Erik Kinney 10 to lead Cal State Bakersfield (1-5), which shot only 28 percent.

Luke Martinez and Riley Grabau added 11 each for Wyoming (6-0).

Nathan Sobey's 20-foot jumper with 9:11 remaining put Wyoming up 43-28, and the Roadrunners drew no closer than 13 the rest of the way. The Cowboys' largest lead was 57-35 after two free throws by Martinez at the 4:41 mark.

Stephon Carter, the sixth-leading scorer in Cal State Bakersfield history, fouled out with 6:52 remaining and finished with four points.

Wyoming never trailed, jumping out to an 18-6 lead after hitting four 3s in the first 5 minutes, including two from Martinez. The Cowboys shot 46 percent.

BC volleyball advances

The Bakersfield College women's volleyball team beat Mount San Antonio College 25-11, 25-22, 25-22 in the second round of the Southern California Regionals.

The Renegades took an early 6-0 lead in the first set and cruised to the set victory behind six kills from Caitlin Bernardin.

The Renegades were led by Bernardin's 23 kills and 21 digs. Alyssa Mathews had 12 kills and 16 digs. Setter Samantha Whittington had 41 assists and 17 digs, and libero Monica Barksdale had 19 digs. BC will host the winner of Saturday's Golden West-San Diego Mesa match on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

CSUB women fall

Four Cal State Bakersfield players scored in double figures in a 76-71 loss to Stephen F. Austin at the Cal Poly Thanksgiving Tournament in San Luis Obispo.

Sophomore center Porsha Roberts led Stephen F. Austin (4-2) with a career-high 31 points and seven rebounds.

Tyonna Outland led the Roadrunners (1-4) with 17 points and nine rebounds. Ciarra Ford (15), Amber Williams (12) and Brooklyn Hinkens (10) also scored in double figures for CSUB.

Roberts made 10-of-13 field goals and 11-of-15 free throws.

CSUB, which has lost three in a row, faces Cal Poly today at 2 p.m.

Taft men's soccer advances

TAFT -- Taft College forward Roberto Mariscal scored off a rebound in overtime to give the Cougars a 1-0 victory over Cabrillo College in the Northern California Regional Final.

The No. 1-seeded Cougars (17-0-5) face No. 3 Mount San Antonio College in Walnut on Friday at 4 p.m. in the state semifinals. The other matchup features Golden West against San Francisco City.

BC men get first victory

The Bakersfield College men's basketball team captured its first victory of the season, 70-68 over Merritt College in the consolation game of the BC Thanksgiving Tournament.

Van Holloway had a team-high 16 points for BC, while Conroy Lester and Damian Robinson added 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Renegades (1-3) play at 5 p.m. Wednesday at West Hills.

Vipers topple Jam

HIDALGO, Texas -- Bakersfield guard Jerel McNeal led the team with 18 points and five assists, but it would not be enough as the Jam fell at Rio Grande Valley 113-102.

Center Brian Butch had a double-double for the Jam (1-1), finishing with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Rio Grande Valley (1-1) guard Jeff Adrien led all scorers with 29 points.

The Jam will host Idaho on Thursday at 7 p.m.
