American Academy's Level 5 gymnastics team took over the podium during Saturday's State Championship at the Pasadena Convention Center. American dominated the balance beam, producing two state champions: Elena Caballero (9.6) and Natalie Roberts (9.525), with Kaitlynn McDonnell winning gold on the vault (9.15) and uneven bars (9.55). McDonnell placed second in the all-around (37.025). The highest all-around score for American was Natalie Roberts (37.225), who won silver at one of the biggest competitions of her life. Dalilia Olivera placed fourth. The level 6 team also had impressive results. Bella Becerra scored a 9.15 on the vault while Amy Cheng received a 9.4 on the balance beam. placing 4th. Taylor Bentley had the highest all-around score of the level 6 team (36.375), placing 11th in the state. The rest of the level 5 team included: Karlee Taylor, Ireland Fleming, Kayleigh Perry, Alise Lowe, Samantha Noe, Sophie Bouldoukian, Sydney Lahoda, Melissa Bothwell, Kimberly Mielke, Caitlin Lowery and coaches Lisa Difrancesco, Austin Pazzi, and Kelsey Schuler. American Academy Level 4 competitor Dulce Felizarta won a state title in the floor exercise (9.675) and Sarah Graessly was the highest all-arounder for the American team (37.325) placing 10th in the state Sunday at the Pasadena Convention Center. Graessly also earned a silver medal on the uneven bars (9.6). American Academy's Halle Rice scored a personal-best all-around of 36.125.
