SAN JOSE -- Diego Ochoa scored on an unassisted corner kick with 5 seconds left in regulation to give the San State State men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Cal State Bakersfield on Friday night.
Kicking from the left corner, Ochoa curved the ball in across the goal mouth, where it then banked off the right post and into the net.
Gyasi Zardes led the Roadrunners with seven shots.
CSUB (5-3-4) next plays Sunday at 1 p.m. at the University of Seattle.
TAFT -- Taft College remained one of California's two unbeaten community college men's soccer teams with a 2-0 win over Cosumnes River.
Taft (11-0-2) is No. 1 in the state and No. 10 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America national poll.
Gerardo Gonzalez had a first-half goal for the Cougars and Romero Barraza added a second-half goal.
Cosumnes River is in the Big 8 Conference; Taft is in the Central Valley Conference.
BC women's soccer
Morgan Butterbredt had three goals and an assist and Mitzi Ibarra added a goal and an assist to lead Bakersfield College to a 6-0 Western State Conference South Division win over L.A. Valley at BC.
Michele Loera and Reshana Watson had the other goals for BC (6-6 overall, 2-4 WSC). Catie Hashim had two assists and Michelle Carbajal added an assist for the Renegades.
Bakersfield College freshman wide receiver and kick returner Chaz Adams has been named National Northern Conference Special Teams/All-Purpose Player of the Week. Adams, from Houston, averaged 23.8 yards on four punt returns with a touchdown. He also had a key block that helped break free fellow wideout Marquise Johnson on a 73-yard touchdown play during BC's 40-13 win at El Camino. BC has a bye today. Its next game is next Saturday at Moorpark at 4 p.m.
BC cross country
SANTA BARBARA -- Moriah Millwee placed 19th (21 minutes, 58 seconds), leading the Bakersfield College women to a fifth-place finish on the 5-kilometer beach course at the Santa Barbara Cross Country Invitational.
Other top BC finishers were Orieth Rodriguez (35th, 23:27), Danielle Tildahl (37th, 23:37), Lizette Sanchez (40th, 23:46) and Tejera Dail (53rd, 24:03).
Robbie Davalos (64th, 24:39) paced the BC men (12th as a team) on the 4-mile course.
Other top finishers were Davis Loustalot (77th, 25:05), Misael Herrera (86th, 25:30), Eddie Garcia (88th, 25:27) and Mike Shaffer (90th, 25:30).
MOORPARK -- Caitlin Bernardin had 15 kills and 15 digs as Bakersfield College beat Moorpark College, 25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 25-18. Samantha Whittington also had a big game for the Renegades (13-4, 2-2 Western States Conference), finishing with 46 assists and three aces. Bakersfield will host Glendale on Wednesday.
