The South Valley Thunder Soccer Club U15 girls secured a championship title at Aug. 4-5 FC Irvine Showcase Tournament. The girls won their bracket of play on Saturday, won their semifinal 2-0 on Sunday morning, and then beat the Orange County-based So Cal Blues Soccer Club 3-1 for the title. The Thunder is coached by Jeff Darling and Jason Carter.

The Ballers for Christ 16U boys basketball team from Bakersfield went 9-0 to win the recent Las Vegas Fabulous 48 Tournament, capping their impressive run with a 6866 victory over the Canada Knights in the title game. The team posted a 20-3 record during the spring and summer, including a 7-0 showingn in the Long Beach tournament in April. Players include: Sheldon Croney of Garces, Steven Contreras, Kevin Hayes, B.J. Shelton and Landon Gosling of Bakersfield, Derek Check and Isaiah Molina of Independence and Shepard Brevail of Frontier. Coaches are Elbert Watkins and Nikhol West.
