The Blaze will try again tonight to extend their nine-game California League winning streak, after Wednesday's game at Banner Island Ballpark was rained out.

Wednesday's scheduled baseball game was rescheduled for June 12 at Stockton and will be part of a doubleheader.

Byars plays for Spurs

Forward Derrick Byars, who was called up from the Bakersfield Jam, scored two points and grabbed three rebounds in four minutes of play for the NBA's San Antonio in their 110-106 victory over the Phoenix Suns.

Local bowler in national tourney at Las Vegas

Bakersfield bowler Joe Smith is among 108 amateur competitors who will compete for approximately $500,000 in prizes at the National In-League Tournament Friday and Saturday at to be held in Las Vegas.

More than 25,000 AMF league bowlers entered the 2012 National In-League Tournament. All of the 108 AMF league bowlers will compete in an elimination-style format that spans four rounds over the two days. The bowler in each division with the highest pins-over-average score or closest to average will walk away with the record-breaking purse.

Only one person in each division will earn a $50,000 grand prize, but every national finalist will receive prize money, ranging from $25,000 for second place to $250 each for the bowlers finishing 17th-27th.

Fan appreciation day today for BC baseball

Bakersfield College concludes its regular season baseball schedule today with a 3 p.m. home game vs. Los Angeles Pierce College at Gerry Collis Field.

It is Fan Appreciation Day and spectators wearing red will be admitted free of charge. BC is 24-11 and hoping for an at-large berth into the Southern California playoffs. Pierce is 9-26.

Notable auction items for CSUB fundraiser

A 20-panel solar system valued at $26,000 from Bland Solar System highlights the numerous auction items that will be available Tuesday at the latest "An Evening with Stephen Neal" fundraiser for CSU Bakersfield wrestling.

Neal, a two-time national heavyweight champion during his CSUB career, ws later a World Champion. He then played on three Super Bowl-winning New England Patriots teams.

The wrestling program must raise all of its operating capital to remain in existence. The event will be held at Stockdale Country Club. Tickets to the event, which includes a buffet dinner, are $75. Checks should be made out to The Coyote Club.

Other items available in the auction is a week at a 2-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom condo at Pismo Beach; a four-day, three-night Alaskan fishing trip; a two-hour San Joaquin aerial tour donated by Scott Garrison; golf with actor John Schneider (who played Bo Duke in the "Dukes of Hazard" TV show; dinner for six at Cafe Med in a private wine room with Neal; autographed Kevin Harvick memorabilia; an autographed Tom Brady jersey; an air conditioning unit; and other items.

CSUB water polo star Browning honored

Cal State Bakersfield junior Jessica Browning has been selected to the All-Western Water Polo Association's all-conference first team.

Browning ranks fifth in Division I with 74 goals and with 112 points. She is 10th in assists (38).

CSUB junior Sam Shead was a second-team pick. Shehad 44 goals, 35 assists and 79 points this season.

Honorable mention picks were Shannon McKenzie, the national leader with 72 assists, and Taylor Hanson. McKenzie had 56 goals and 128 points. Hanson had 39 goals and 41 assists.

Alex Bayer and Janelle Shelby were named to the WWPA's All-Freshman team. Bayer, a goalier, went 13-8 with 179 saves. Shelby had 52 goals, 12 assists and 64 points.

CSUB tennis player Mannix gets GWC honor

Cal State Bakersfield junior Julian Mannix has been named to the All-Great West Conference second-team in women's tennis.

Mannix won at No. 3 singles and teamed with Estefania Limpias to beat North Dakota's Stephanie Petsis and Stephanie Biehn in No. 1 doubles to help the Roadrunners to their first victory of the year Sunday, 4-2 over North Dakota, to place fifth in the GWC standings.

Mannix went 7-4 in singles and 6-6 in doubles this season. CSUB finished 1-12 this season.
