I couldn't believe the front page of Sunday's paper regarding prisoners and their fear of contracting valley fever ("Inmates fear moves to danger areas").
A law firm helped secure a $425,000 settlement from the federal government last year for a former inmate who developed valley fever while incarcerated at Taft Correctional Institution?
What's wrong with this picture? What if a correctional officer, a farm worker or an oil field worker were to get valley fever? Who is going to pay them?
I believe prisoners should be treated fairly. However, I lived in Coalinga (whose prison, along with Avenal's, may be closed), and if I develop valley fever, where can I sign up to receive $425,000? Enough is enough.
