Regarding the May 19 news story "Kern's image may be taking a hit": A man is dead and four children are left without a father. Bakersfield leaders are worried about the city's image. Really? Really?

It took numerous law enforcement officers and a dog to subdue and kill a man who'd been trying to make his way into the Kern Medical Center ER. Why wasn't he assisted instead of attacked? Why aren't those involved suspended from their duties without pay? They are at least accomplices to homicide.

Daily in Bakersfield, someone is shot, killed, beaten or knifed. That's what this city's image is -- brutality and, now, fear of law enforcement.

Be careful out there. If you capture a crime on video, take it straight to a news station.
