Caltrans says that bomb shelters built in the early 1960s are not eligible for historic status. The U.S. Forest Service says that broken glass on the ground around Isabella Lake has antiquity status and anyone picking it up is subject to a $300 fine. It seems that government agencies make their own rules to fit how they want a situation to turn out. Caltrans wants to demolish homes, etc., to build a freeway, so 50-year-old shelters are deemed not historic. The U.S. Forest Service wants to raise funds, so it deems broken glass on the bottom of the lake to be at least 50 years old, which qualifies it for antiquity status.
Sure makes you wonder where it will all end!
